Adorned by Extinction

A project by Eni Cani and Stephie Morawetz

"Adorned by Extinction: Jewellery in a World Without Insects" explores the vital role insects play in our ecosystem through a thought-provoking collection of jewellery. The exhibition highlights the catastrophic consequences of insect extinction and envisions a future where humans must adapt to perform the essential tasks once carried out by these tiny creatures. Each piece serves as both a functional tool and a poignant reminder of what we stand to lose.

The aim of the exhibit is to merge art and environmental advocacy, using jewellery as a medium to spark conversation and raise awareness about insect extinction. It invites visitors to reflect on the symbiotic relationship between humans and insects, emphasising the critical need for conservation efforts.

Currently, 40 percent of insect species worldwide are threatened with extinction. Even those not previously at risk are declining rapidly. Over the past 27 years, the global insect biomass has plummeted by 76 percent. In a future without insects, humans would need to take over their duties. What would a world look like where humans mimic the work of insects?
