The forest stands as our planet's green lung, and as a resident of Vienna, I share a unique connection with the woods. Known as the Vienna Woods, this UNESCO Biosphere Reserve on the fringes of a bustling metropolis blankets an expansive 105,645 hectares, encompassing 33 distinct types of forests. It's not only rich in history but also pivotal to Vienna's future, often referred to as the city's "green lung."

With my project, I seek to emphasise the significance of air quality. Enter the "4 Wunderbäume," each resembling the famous design of an air freshener. However, rather than synthetic scents, these encapsulate the genuine air of the forest.

I collected air samples from four different forest types on Vienna's outskirts: Leopoldsberg, Moosgraben, Lainzer Tiergarten, and Kalenderberg. Each pendant bears the coordinates of its origin etched along its edge, connecting it to a specific place in this green expanse.

Through these four pendants and their accompanying photo project, I aim to celebrate the Vienna Woods, raise awareness about the importance of air quality, and share the essence of these distinct woods with a wider audience. This project symbolises a breath of fresh forest air, a reminder of the importance of preserving our natural surroundings and the air we breathe.
